Intrepid Museum Member Dr Peter T. Scott, an award-winning educator of Earth Science, is coming to the Queensland Maritime Museum (QMM) to give an engaging talk on the Antarctic entitled In the Steps of the Antarctic Explorer. Peter will be talking about his trip on board the MV Ushuaia which sailed down the Antarctic Peninsula until they encountered the pack ice barrier. Listen to his riveting stories on Sunday 6th of October, at 2pm, at the QMM Shipping Room.
Peter was there exactly 100 years to the day from when Amundsen reached the South Pole. He will use a video which he filmed of the trip to illustrate his talk. The talk will show the conditions in Antarctica and some of the wildlife including Humpback whales, Orcas, various seals, penguins, cormorants and birds. The Museum currently has two taxidermy Emperor Penguins and a Husky on display in the Antarctica exhibition.
Spanning a career of over forty years, he has taught in schools in the Australian Capital Territory, New South Wales and Queensland. During this time, he has been an adviser to all three States in curriculum and teacher training programs. At the University of New England, he carried out scientific research in field geology. Dr Scott is the author of eight books on Earth Sciences and specialises in talks on Antarctica.
