From raging cyclones and turbulent waters to calm seas hiding treacherous rocks, ice and even fire, life at sea has never been plain sailing.

Seafarers have faced incredible dangers navigating vast oceans and narrow waterways. Some ships have fallen victim to the elements, while others have battled the odds and lived to tell the tale.
