A Strange Quirk of History: How the US Seventh Fleet was born in Brisbane
A Queensland Maritime Museum Saturday Floor Talk by David Jones
It was a strange quirk of history that the US Seventh Fleet was born, not in the USA or even in the Philippines or Japan, but in Brisbane. Born in the depths of a global war, the Seventh Fleet has continued ever since, engaged at the forefront of the Korean and Vietnam wars, and it remains active today as the free world’s ready power for peace in the Indo-Pacific region.
Visit and tour the Museum earlier in the day, including our Seventh Fleet Exhibition, and/or join us at 2pm in the QMM Shipping Room to hear the story of how the Seventh Fleet was born in Brisbane 80 years ago. Light Refreshments will be provided at the conclusion of the Talk.
